1. About these terms
These terms and conditions apply to any quotation, estimate or work carried out by Limb Reaper Tree Surgery ("we", "us", "our") for a customer ("you", "your"). By accepting a quote, confirming a booking, or asking us to carry out work, you agree to these terms.
We're based in Essex and carry out tree surgery work across Essex and nearby areas. If anything here is unclear, just ask — call us on 07500 002582 before booking and we'll talk it through.
2. Quotes & estimates
Every job starts with a free, no-obligation site visit. We don't quote sight-unseen over the phone, because the price depends on the tree, access, and what the work actually involves. Quotes are given in writing and are normally valid for 30 days unless we say otherwise.
Prices are based on the site and access conditions as seen at the time of the visit. If access changes, additional obstacles appear, or the scope of work changes once we're on site, we'll discuss any price adjustment with you before continuing.
3. Booking & confirmation
A job is confirmed once you've accepted a written quote, either in writing, by email, or verbally followed by written confirmation from us. We'll agree a provisional date, which may be subject to change due to weather or site conditions (see Section 5).
4. Access, permissions & site conditions
You're responsible for making sure we have safe, reasonable access to the site and the tree(s) in question, including moving vehicles, garden furniture or other obstacles where needed. Please let us know about anything relevant on site — underground services, fences, greenhouses, ponds, livestock, or anything else that could affect the work.
Some trees are protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or sit within a conservation area, and council permission is usually required before any work can go ahead. We check this as part of the site visit and will advise you if an application is needed — but the legal responsibility to have the correct permission in place before work begins remains with the tree owner.
5. Cancellations, postponements & weather
Tree work is often weather-dependent — high winds, storms or heavy rain can make certain jobs unsafe to carry out. If we need to postpone for safety reasons, we'll let you know as early as possible and rearrange for the next suitable date.
If you need to cancel or reschedule a confirmed booking, please give us as much notice as you can. We reserve the right to charge a reasonable fee for cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice, to cover time already allocated to the job.
6. Payment
Payment terms will be set out on your written quote. Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due on completion of the work. We accept bank transfer and other methods as agreed at the time of quoting. Any deposit requested for larger jobs will be confirmed in writing before work begins.
7. Our work & your property
We carry out all work to British Standard BS3998 (Tree Work — Recommendations) using appropriately trained and equipped operatives. We take reasonable precautions to protect your property, boundaries, and surrounding planting, but tree work by nature involves some risk of minor incidental damage (for example to lawns or soft landscaping from rigging and access), which we'll always aim to minimise and make good where reasonably possible.
Please point out anything nearby that's particularly fragile or valuable before we start — hidden hazards or underground services we haven't been made aware of are outside our control.
8. Trees, wood & site clearance
Unless agreed otherwise in writing, we'll clear the site of brash, offcuts and debris arising from the work before we leave. What happens to larger logs and timber — left stacked for firewood, chipped, or removed — will be agreed with you before the job starts and confirmed on your quote.
Trees are living organisms, and while we carry out all work with their long-term health in mind, we can't guarantee how a tree will respond to pruning, reduction or other work, particularly with species that are naturally more sensitive to intervention. We'll always advise honestly on what a tree can be expected to tolerate.
9. Insurance & liability
We carry full public liability insurance, details of which are available on request. Our liability is limited to loss or damage directly caused by our negligence in carrying out the agreed work, and does not extend to pre-existing damage, defects, or issues unrelated to the work carried out.
10. Complaints
If you're ever unhappy with any aspect of the work, please get in touch as soon as possible so we can put it right — call 07500 002582 or email info@limbreapertreesurgery.co.uk. We aim to acknowledge complaints promptly and resolve them fairly.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in how we work or in the law. The version published on this page at the time you book a job will apply to that job.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
